Negation of Interference as the Mechanism by Which Cortisone Induces Increased Virus Yields
نویسندگان
چکیده
Studies of the influence of cortisone on the dynamics of influenza virus multiplication have suggested that cortisone may act to limit the interference with virus increase effected by autologous non-infective but hemagglutinating virus (1). An earlier investigation had adduced evidence for multiplici ty reactivation in the presence of cortisone of virus rendered non-infective (inactive) by mild thermal stress (2). The data presented here will show that inhibition or negation of the viral interference phenomenon is effected by cortisone, and that this effect is the probable mechanism by which influenza virus yields are enhanced.

Reactivation of Non-infective Virus in a Cortisone-injected Host
The administration of cortisone to chick embryos inoculated with large quantities of inactive influenza B virus results in a rate of viral increase greater than is concommittantly observed with inocula of comparable infectivity which are devoid of inactive particles. Thus, more than a mere negation of autointerference is effected. It is concluded that in the presence of cortisone reactivation h...

The several and sometimes paradoxical effects of cortisone and its analogues on the course of a variety of infections may be duplicated in the relatively simple chick embryo-influenza virus model in which the interrelationships of a single obligate intracellular parasite and the cells of a single target organ (the allantoic entoderm) may be examined. Even in this simple system the influence of ...

Abstract: Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) is the most common agent known to cause viral myocarditis. The viral genome encodes a single polyprotein that is cleaved to produce several proteins by virally encoded proteases. Most of this proteolytic processing is catalyzed by a cysteine protease called 3C. The 3C protease plays major role in viral replication and cellular damage. To understand the mecha...

Sambucus nigra (elder) are broadly used species to treat microbial infections. Thepotential antiviral activity and mechanism action of elder fruit (EF) in human epithelium cell(A549) cultures infected with H9N2 influenza virus were determined. The effect of variousconcentrations of EF on influenza virus replication was examined by using virus titration, quantitative real time RT-PCR, fusion and ...
